Scholarship Program

To Write Art — Independent Art Education Scholarship

To Write Art is an independent art education initiative. It is not affiliated with any government body, university, or institution, and receives no government funding.

Why This Scholarship Exists

This scholarship exists to support individuals who have a genuine interest in art and a desire to explore their creative practice with greater depth, curiosity, and reflection. It is intended for open-minded individuals who enjoy exploring concepts, questioning perspectives, and thinking creatively.

Available Places

A maximum of three (3) scholarship places are available for each program each year (nine in total across the full trilogy: Perception, Non-Human Art, and Art Intersections). Places are limited and awarded at the sole discretion of To Write Art.

What the Scholarship Covers

Each scholarship provides one recipient with full twelve-month access to a single To Write Art program of their choosing, at no cost. This includes all curriculum materials in digital format.

The scholarship does not require recipients to provide testimonials, reviews, or public endorsements of any kind. There are no obligations beyond engaging with the program itself.

The program is entirely self-directed. To Write Art does not provide traditional teaching, artwork critique, or ongoing instruction. However, students may contact us with questions and request support when needed.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. There is no fixed deadline; however, once available places for the year have been filled, applications will close until the following year.

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipients are selected based on the strength and sincerity of their application. Genuine interest in self-directed learning and creative curiosity are considered. Academic qualifications are not a requirement.

Notification

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by email. To Write Art endeavours to respond to all applications within four (4) weeks of receiving the required materials. Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to reapply in a subsequent year.

To Write Art — Scholarship Application

Before applying for the scholarship, we ask that you read the following information carefully to ensure the program aligns with your interests, learning style, goals, and expectations.

To Write Art is an innovative, unconventional program designed to encourage creative exploration and independent thinking. As a scholarship student, you will receive a PDF containing the complete 12-month program and will work through the topics and tasks independently, at a pace that suits your schedule and circumstances. Students need to be comfortable managing their own time and motivating themselves. There are no workshops, teachers directing your progress, set deadlines, or monitoring your work. The program is designed for independent learning.

Although To Write Art is a self-directed program, students are not without support. You are welcome to contact us with questions about the program, topics, tasks, or your learning experience. We are happy to provide clarification, discuss ideas, and help you better understand the structure and purpose of the program. Students are welcome to reach out whenever they need support throughout their creative journey.

To Write Art is a reading-based program. Every section has been included for a reason and contributes to the overall structure and philosophy of the program. The aim of To Write Art is to encourage students to think differently about what art can be, where inspiration comes from, and how art can be viewed from multiple perspectives.

The program does not teach technical skills such as composition, drawing techniques, or traditional artistic methods. Instead, its focus is on expanding the way artists think about art — both their own and that of others — and transforming thought into creative expression.

You will have the option to participate in the Weekly Self Check-In. Participation is entirely voluntary, but many students find it beneficial for reflection and personal growth. Further information can be found within the program and on our website.

3 Programs to Choose From. Each Program Includes 10–12 Topics. Each Topic Includes:

  • A start and end mind map with reflective questions

  • Written content typically 3–6 pages long

  • One or two creative tasks

  • Learning objectives

  • Reflective processes

  • Helpful hints and suggested approaches

  • A self-evaluation section

Artwork submissions are entirely optional and are only required if you wish to receive a Certificate of Completion. You may submit one artwork, multiple artworks, or no artwork at all. Submitted artworks are not scored, judged, critiqued, or provided with feedback. This reflects our philosophy that creative exploration should not be shaped by external opinions, personal taste, or approval. The program encourages students to explore ideas, memories, beliefs, experiences, and creative choices. These are deeply personal areas that we do not direct or influence.

If you feel the To Write Art program aligns with your interests, please submit your scholarship application for consideration. Successful applicants will be contacted by email and sent the Scholarship Agreement for review and signature. Please check your spam or junk folder after submitting your application, as all correspondence will be sent from towriteart@hotmail.com. Some applicants may be required to respond to additional questions.
